Tiger population in India increases to 1706

It is really surprising and pleasing news from the Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh that the population of Tigers in India has significantly increased, while releasing the All India Tiger Estimation Exercise for 2010. The tiger population of the country has shown an increase from 1411 in 2006 to 1706 last year, with improvement significantly recorded in the reserves in naxal-affected areas.

The census, conducted over one year from December 2009 and December 2010 at a cost of Rs 9.1 crore, was a massive exercise involving 4.7 lakh forest personnel along with a number of wildlife activists who scanned over 45,000 sq km of the country's forest areas.

We expect you to leave your valuable suggestions and comments, such information can bring more awareness in travelers from India and other countries...
