Good news for Train Travellers

 "Use Less Paper,Save more Trees"-

IRCTC deems SMS confirmations/screenshots of e-tickets as valid tickets on trains.

To take green initiative and to save paper IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), ticket examiners will now accept an SMS message or screenshot of the e-ticket confirmation on passenger’s mobile/laptop/tablet computers as tickets, along with an original identity proof. Earlier, a fine of Rs 50 per ticket was imposed on those travelling without e-ticket printouts. "It is enough if passengers show the screen-shot of their e-ticket displayed on laptop/mobile phone/tablet computers along with an original identification proof," said a senior IRTC official.

"Due to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) SMS regulations, a few passengers are not getting the reservation status updates on their phones. But, the issue will be resolved soon. For now, we are providing updates through their registered e-mail," he said. Details of the Virtual Reservation Message (VRM) are displayed on the IRCTC website, urging passengers to stop using A4 printouts. About three lakh A4 sheets are expected to be saved across the country every day through this initiative, according to a report by Christin Mathew Philip in The Times of India.
